Employee Spotlight: Shining a Light On Employees Who Go Above and Beyond

Shaun Trujillo has been with West Valley City for nearly 18 years and is currently a Technical Support Supervisor in the IT Department. He provides leadership and hands-on support to multiple departments by running our city’s Helpdesk. Over time, he has become the de facto face of IT.

Ken Cushing, IT Division Head, says Shaun makes a huge impact without ever seeking recognition. “He is very unassuming, works incredibly hard, and never asks for anything,” said Cushing. “What stands out most about Shaun is how willing he is to help anyone, anytime he is needed. He is approachable, dependable, and consistently provides great service.”

Shaun says he takes pride in helping people in a wide range of departments stay productive by resolving technical challenges efficiently. “While the role can be fast-paced and sometimes stressful, I find it equally rewarding to solve

problems and make a positive impact on the organization’s operations,” said Shaun.

Thanks for keeping us up and running, Shaun!

Measles in Utah: Personal Risk and Prevention

GettyImages-2168311147.jpg

Recent public health reports indicate ongoing vaccine-preventable disease activity in Utah, including confirmed cases of measles. The Utah Department of Health and Human Services has documented community spread and continues to monitor cases statewide. Public health authorities recommend that residents ensure they are up to date on recommended immunizations and seek guidance from a healthcare provider regarding personal risk and preventive measures.

To support your health and well-being:

  • Review your immunization status: The Utah statewide immunization registry (USIIS) can help you locate personal vaccination records if needed.

  • Consult your healthcare provider: Before receiving any vaccine, please discuss your medical history, potential risks, or benefits, and whether a vaccine is recommended for you or family members. Health decisions should always be made in consultation with a licensed medical professional.

  • Follow local public health guidance: State and local health departments provide up-to-date recommendations on vaccines, outbreak status, and next steps. Utah health authorities advise that individuals at risk — especially those not up to date on routine vaccinations — consider discussing additional protection with their doctor.

  • Travel and other preventive health considerations: If you or your family plan travel or have specific health concerns (e.g., for infants, older adults, pregnant individuals, or those with health conditions), a healthcare provider can help tailor recommendations to your situation.

Please remember that this message is informational and not medical advice. Always consult your physician or healthcare provider for decisions about vaccines and health care. For more information, please visit: https://epi.utah.gov/measles-response/

Voluntary Leave Bank Program

West Valley City recognizes that employees and their family members may have a serious health condition, resulting in the need for additional time off in excess of their available accrued leave. To address this need, all eligible employees will be allowed to donate PTO to their co-workers in need of additional paid time off, in accordance with the new Voluntary Leave Bank Program. Participation in this policy is entirely voluntary.

Beginning January 1, 2026, West Valley City is enhancing its specialty drug program to better support employees who use high-cost specialty medications. These specialty medications will now be managed through Payer Matrix, and coverage for those medications will no longer be provided directly through Select Health.  If you currently use a specialty medication, a Payer Matrix Care Coordinator may contact you to guide you through available assistance programs and work directly with you and your healthcare provider to ensure timely access to your medication. This advocacy service helps ensure continued access to medications with little to no out-of-pocket cost to eligible employees.
